8th Kilometre
RUAZENHE

Practical

Getting there

Reaching "the Eighth" is easier than it seems: the market stands by a major metro station, and you can't get lost — the crowd carries you to the entrance.

The market is in Baku's Nizami district, by Kara Karayev Avenue and Jamshid Nakhchivanski Street. The nearest metro station is Neftchilar.

Getting there

The way to the bazaar

The easiest route is the metro to Neftchilar: from there it is a few minutes' walk to the rows. By car, head for Kara Karayev Avenue; at rush hour the traffic is heavy and parking is tricky.

The best time is early on a weekday morning: the produce is fresh, there are fewer people, and sellers haggle more readily. By midday at weekends the bazaar is packed solid.

Tips from regulars

To make the trip work

Bring cash
In small notes: it makes bargaining easier and saves hunting for change.
Haggle calmly
Name your price politely and with a smile — it is part of the game, not a conflict.
Come in the morning
Earlier means fresher and roomier; weekend afternoons are a real crush.
Mind your things
As at any big market: keep your bag close and valuables nearer still.

It is best to check addresses, opening hours and routes before your trip: at a big, living market the details change.
